My father, Cain Buchanan, is my hero and one of the most notorious serial killers in the country. He was known as, The Chameleon. You might have heard of him.
Rules are for other people. They didn’t apply to me or my dad. I’d learned all about our family legacy at a young age. That didn’t bother me. But navigating who I was outside of our family farm was proving to be more difficult than I imagined.

Mairie_93_28 октября 2025 г.I don’t know how it happened but at some point I started really enjoying reading about Cain and was so glad that second gen book started as a continuation of his book and from his pov. Such a treat. Which made some of the events of this story quite devastating after such a good start.Читать далее
Even though this book was about their children, I constantly wanted more of Cain and his thoughts. What happened to Kirby broke my heart, but even more so all the glimpses of Cain through his daughter’s eyes. The way he sat and just stared at her photo years after brought tears to my eyes every time.
As for Kallie herself, I didn’t really like her. She was too impulsive and petulant like a child. Some of the tantrums she had were quite annoying and the fact that she was like a ticking time bomb and everyone else needed to keep an eye on her and cover for her got on my nerve, which definitely was a reason for a lower rating.
I didn’t have any problem with Crater, he was such a sweetheart. His love was so pure. It was quite interesting to follow his life since childhood, how he lived along with Cain and see the dynamic in the family where he was almost the only normal one without killing urges.
Even though the time flies through the book and big periods of time are covered, the story started dragging a bit in the middle. I didn’t really care about the romance between Kallie and Carter and all of the spice between them which at times made me cringe. Her killing people left and right and barely covering tracks with no consequences stopped making sense after a while. Cain’s book originally was more well-thought and made sense when there was an ongoing investigation, here no one even mentioned the police when students randomly went missing until the last part of the book and only in passing.
The epilogue killed me. I haven’t cried that hard in a while. Cain is still my favorite character in this series and I enjoyed every second of his presence on the pages of this book. I felt so sad for him.
