  This is “what if someone like Dracula came to a small American town” and it’s not bad - but that’s about all of it.
  
  It’s an awfully slow burn that didn’t pay off for me. The atmosphere of a kind of creepy small town is created well but it takes too long. Too many characters are introduced in some detail to then just die with no impact.
  
  The disappointing thing is that the vampire part doesn’t really depend on the small town setting, especially not on a small town setting in this particular country in this particular era. Most of it feels like it could have happened anywhere at any time. Paired with an overall not so original story it’s just … meh.
  
  The big bad is also kind of meh. He doesn’t feel particularly scary or dangerous, his motivation to settle in a small town is vague and kind of weird, his main goal seems to basically be that of a virus.
  
  I quite enjoyed parts of it: the creepy small town atmosphere, the kind of cool kid, some of the evil vs good and evil vs faith oppositions. But overall it was a fairly even mix of good and bad resulting in an average of three stars.
