Я вспомнил из жития Св. Августина, как ему явился мальчик, вычерпывавший ложкой море. Мальчик был ангел и таким манером потешался над святым, вознамерившимся проникнуть в тайны божественной природы. И как тот ангел, заговорил ко мне Вильгельм, прислонившись в изнеможении к косяку дверного проема: «Это невозможно. Нам этого не одолеть. Даже со всеми монахами аббатства. Библиотека погибла». В отличие от ангела, Вильгельм плакал.
I recalled the story of Saint Augustine, when he saw a boy trying to scoop up the water of the sea with a spoon: the boy was an angel and did this to make fun of a saint who wanted to understand the mysteries of the divine nature.
