We were all we had, and we could die. It`s hard to live knowing something like that.

Every life has a watershed moment, an instant when you realize you`re about to make a choice that will define everything else you ever do, and that if you choose wrong, there may not be that many things left to choose.

"Are we going to survive this?"
"Probably not. You want out?"
"No." He shook his head. "I just wanted to know whether you realized that."
"I do," I said. "Now get to work."

"Rest, George. It`ll be better when you wake up."
"No, it won`t," I said, resigning myself to the inevitable. "It`ll just be later. Later isn`t better. Later is just when we have more time."

There are people who are going to say she was a traitor. I`ll probably be one of them. That doesn`t change the fact that she was my friend. For a long time, before she did anything wrong, she was my friend, and I was with her when she died, and I`m going to miss her. That`s what matters. She was my friend.

The truth is only scary when you think part of it might be missing.

Everything is 'just a story'. Tragedy, comedy, end of the world, whatever, it`s just a story. What matters is making sure it`s heard.

Shaun spends his time moving, planning to move, and coming up with new ways to move, many of them involving heavy explosives or the undead. I spend my time writing, thinking about writing, and trying to come up with new things I can write about. Sleep has never been high on the priority list for either of us.

Mom`s minivan is kept ready at all times. Food, water, a CDC-certified biohazard containment unit for temperature-sensitive medications, a coffeemaker, steel-reinforced windows... We could be trapped inside that thing for a week, and we`d be fine. Except for the part where we`d go crazy from stress and confinement and kill each other before rescue came.

Here and now, sticking with people who know you best is the most guaranteed way of staying alive.

The truth will make you free, but it won`t make you particularly wealthy. I knew that when I chose my profession.

We`re the all purpose opiate of the new millenium: We report the news, we make the news, and we give you a way to escape when the news becomes too much to handle.

Think about that for a moment. They died for you.
Now take a good look at the life you`re living and tell me: Did they do the right thing?

Nothing is impossible to kill. It`s just that sometimes after you kill something, you have to keep shooting it until it stops moving.
