    Engrossing and intriguing sci-fi

Faraway future, 26th century. Humanity has long ago left in the past its peak of technological and cultural development and prosperity. After an ecological disaster Earth has become a distressing, ruined and abandoned place, where locals are left for their own care. The only possible way to provide planets and colonies with the resources - steal them from the past.

ChronoCom is the only authorized company that can perform resources salvages in the past. Its famous chronmen are pretty courageous but desperate fellas. They earn good money, but they belong to the company. Only tiny share can finally break free and start a good life. Others endlessly risk their lives in the past and most do not meet the challenge.

Chronmen James Griffin-Mars is a high-qualified operative of Tier-1, performing jobs in the most tricky eras. He and his handler have only five years of contract left, but James is not sure he will stand for so long. Time travelling influences disruptively not only physical, but also mental state.

Unexpectedly James receives an offer for a salvage that will buy out 4 years of his contract and give him and his handler a golden ticket to Europa - dream site of the 26th century inhabitants. Job is risky, with little information and short time window. He accepts and then everything goes wrong...

I really liked this book, finished it fast. English is not that complicated, though usually sci-fi is replete with specific terminology that is not quite easy to pull through.
Characters are interesting, setting is well thought-through, history of the world is pretty logical, action is riveting. And there is also a touchy love story!
A lot of questions left, so I expect to get answers in the next book Time Siege .
