An OK book by Lisa See

If you are familiar with Lisa See's style, this is another book typical to her narrative. The author likes to talk about Chinese imigrants in the US and portrait Chinese customs and traditions, drawing cross-relations between life of Chinese people in China and life in CA, USA . This is her second book that I've read about this. She weaves Chinese phrases and idioms into her narrative, which is kind of interesting from the point of view of broadening your horizons. However, I find her stories to be very mundane and lacking complexity. This book is about lives of two Chinese and one Japanese American dancers during WW2. The author talks about a very interesting period in history through the lives of these ordinary girls. She makes a great intrigue of their stories and builds up suspense. You are sitting there and waiting for some interesting development, which won't really happen, like it was in "The Tea Girl from Hummingbird Lane". As far as I am concerned, the characters in this book lack complexity. Basically, for me this book is about learning some new Chinese vocabulary, getting some insight into life of Chinese imigrants in CA, learning about the fate of people of Japanese origin in the US during WW2 and getting a glimpse at the development of Asian entertainment industry in the US. Lisa See uses good and interesting facts, which makes me want to learn more. But her plot is dull. Yet again, it's an easy read and if I had to recommend it to somebody, I'd say read "The Tea Girl from Hummingbird Lane" first, see what you think and only start this book if you liked Lisa's writing style, but dont expect too much from it.
