The pace is inconsistent: there’s a bit of excitement at the beginning, then it drags forever, then a bunch of stuff is crammed into the ending.
The message is inconsistent: it’s too men-centred for a book trying to be about female empowerment.
The POVs are inconsistent: there’s an alternative POV that pretends to be one character, turns out to be another, but actually mixes in both.
The characters are inconsistent: some do things inconsistent with their character just to fit the plot, others are just randomly doing random stuff to make it more mysterious, I guess.
The vibe is inconsistent: there is a lot of back and forth between is he going crazy, is it substances, is someone doing it to him, is it supernatural, and it just feels like a jumble of everything, not an exciting balance on a thin line between these options.
A lot of the book is messy and jumbled, not in a fun way, and though there are some good moments and some things do come together in the end, there are way more things that are random and illogical, and for every thing coming together well there’s a twist creating more plot holes.
Kind of annoying because some parts do have potential, but oh well.
