Some things I liked in this book, some I didn’t, a lot was rather meh.

I actually kind of enjoyed the dry-ish storytelling that was like a newspaper article or some sort of report. It moved the story forward slowly and meticulously. Unfortunately, it didn’t arrive at much at the end. The big downside of this style for me was that everyone and everything kind of got equal attention - the main characters and the supporting ones, the main storylines and the ones that were there just to add to the atmosphere and pad the volume of the book. Nothing really stands out, and even the final resolution/important scene between two of the main characters feels just like yet another episode, even though it should have a lot of emotional weight.

I enjoyed the story of a small town moving from fishing to crime to fighting the crime and the story of two friends, one choosing the law and one the life of crime. The story often gets lost in the padding though - side stories, minor characters, unnecessary dialogues, etc.

Overall, it’s an okay book if you enjoy the way it is told, but that’s about it.
