Sometimes you're in a mood to read fantasy.
And expecting some kind of entertainment and intriguing plot. But not this time. This time the story was a kind of linear, without breath-taking swerves. Everything is as usual. One is an evil and another one is a good guy. Both are immortal. Which is usual. And fighting. The plot is simple as one penny coin.
And the good one, Nicholas, has an ancient book which gives him immortality.Another one wants that book. And twins, who are involved in the process of bookcrossing.
Easy to read even for non-native. Easy to understand. Easy enough to find the strange things. Then the bad guy stabbed with (!!!) a sword, which is no less than Excalibur, the "Tree of life and everything" (From Scandinavia mythology, Yggdrasil) and it dies. Hense is a question – why didn't he do it in the first place, without waiting for his allies almost defeated. Strange and weird. Doesn't make any sence.
Another thing – we can see how the group of good magic wanderers (these "bookcrossers") travelled through the mirror... and this I definately don't like. We do remember old ( now almost ancient ) movie when the twins travelled throw the glass into another realm...
We do remember the intriguing plots by Gayman... and now this. Doesn't get much respect for the author.
And yes, I've nearly forgotten. There were the Elder Race. And here is the terrific mixture of all gods and creatures from the ancient times. (Again Gayman comes into the play with his "American Gods" – isn't it annoying ?)
So, my verdict – I do not recommend.
P.S. And that was the first book. No precise end, only flimsy beginning. Why have I read it?
