More than half of the book is just a family of complete jerks bickering on vacation in Italy. And again, not very fun jerks either. The whole family HATES Anna, including her brother’s new boyfriend, and they all treat her equally one-note terribly. Why? Because, I guess. They all mention only three kind of vague incidents where Anna might have been the jerk, and that’s it. Anna herself is a boring doormat. Later in the book there is an interesting parallel between what happens with Anna and the ghost and what happens with Anna and her family, but it’s not worth reading through all the annoying BS.
The spooky stuff was not spookying for me. Most of the stuff that happens is stereotypical ghost shenanigans, happening randomly. The main ghost’s story is incredibly vague.
The ending has some cool moments, but also some key parts, like Anna suddenly not doormatting and coming up with a cool plan, happen behind the scenes.
Overall, the cover is indeed the best part of this book.
