Jocelyn_Phoenix12 февраля 2026 г.I might have done myself a disservice reading all the Poirot books one by one in a short-ish period: some books that might have stood better by themselves look paler in comparison to some of the others - and a tad repetitive. But oh well, I’m on this quest now and I cannot stop.
(minor spoiler-ish statements ahead)
This book has the classic formula: a rich person ill or dying, some issues with the will/inheritance, a second body, the most obvious suspect is not the one who did it, the murderer is present from the beginning but is not who they say they are, Poirot solves everything just by talking to people. It’s a decent formula, but it does get repetitive, and I didn’t feel like this book had much to add to it.
To my taste, there was too little Poirot and too much love drama. Also, too many adult people falling in love at first sight.225
