I was savoring every tiny bit of the moment when I sit on the plane and during the long flight and palade every moment of the book by my favorite Frederick Forsyth. But in a couple of hours I started to get bored. Flight was in process, but I switched to another activity disappointed with “Dogs of war”.
Half Irish, half British, Shannon, who is the mercenary, accepted the contact to topple the president of one “banana republic”, where the “Cristal Mountain” was proved to be rich with precious minerals. Almost half of the book dedicated to the preparation of the coup. Frankly speaking , that part is readable, but there weren’t any intrigues which are normally intervening all the stories by Forsyth. Somehow the Shannon starts an affair with the daughter of the main employer. Why ? Love ? No. The way to get an information ? Still I have doubts about it due to the fact of how the book ends… So, probably unnecessary plot line. Somehow all the Soviet representatives in the book were latent. Strange that they were a kind of afraid of banana dictator shown in the book. Normaly It was vice versa – I think. All the Africans dictators were longing to get the support of the former USSR. But in the book USSR representative are a kind of afraid and moreover, USSR is very slow in motions. But the end wasn’t disappointing. Forsyth is a master of unexpected endings. And this book isn’t an exeption.
