I guess I'm on a streak of 3-star books either because they were kind of meh or I had very mixed feelings about them. This was kind of both?

I like the "MC's loved ones are in danger so they have to face hard choices" type of books, including ones with hijacked planes and such. But this one didn't really seem to add anything special to the genre. And the main hard choice? The MC just makes it, there's no deliberation, she's not torn between tha choices at all, however briefly. It reads kinda weird along the MC telling us how she LOVES her daugher all the time, like she is trying to persuade herself, not the readers.

The book handles the topic of having a child with mental issues fairly well, it shows the good and the bad, shows two parents handling it differently and doing their best. But also a lot of it comes down to "my daughter can be hard to handle and I often want to get away from her but I just LOVE her so much". The first almost half of the book is family drama that doesn't have much to do with the events on the plane - they would have happened in about the same way without the kid's mental issues.

The main baddie is SO obvious - I spent the rest of the book thinking that I was probably mistaken because it can't be that obvious, can it? It can. The final added twist with the kid feels kind of dumb, unoriginal, and just added as an attempt for some sort of shock value - which didn't shock me.

The reason for the hijacking and all the environmentalists are just dumb and caricature-like.

After the action had finally started (almost half-way into the book), it was fairly dynamic and somewhat interesting, there was some tention, but the ending was underwhelming. We don't even get to see the MC land the plane - we hear about it on the news. Exciting stuff.

Overall, I didn't hate this book and sometimes had a good time reading it, but not good enough.
