  This particular book is a must read for everyone who wants to understand american social issues in the period known as the Roaring Twenties. Furthermore, those issues are as present in our own society as they were at that time. It is a great story about how much our own wishes and dreams shape our future and what price we have to pay for it. Dreiser's work will not leave anyone without even a tiniest bit of projecting the story upon themselves, so that one can brood upon their own choices and see for themselves, whether one still wants to pursue the same values...
