  Alissa's Diary

  I am Alissa. I like school. I like reading. But I must obey my father. I must go to the city. I am afraid.

  
  My new home is a small and dark room. I work in a house. I cook and clean and wash. I work fifteen hours a day. The house owner shouts at me every day. I am very unhappy. I cry every night.

  
  I work in a clothes shop. I make clothes with five other girls. We work twelve hours a day. At night, we sleep on the floor.

  
  At midday, we have lunch. After lunch, we rest for ten minites. Today, the shop owner gave us a little money. I will buy a book with my money. I can read after lunch.

  
  The shop owner is surprised. The other girls can't read. I will work in the shop.

  
  I like working in the shop. I serve the customers. The customers are rich ladies. They buy expensive dresses.

  
  I am angry. I am a slave here. I want to go to school.

  I am going to a new home. I won't work. I will go to school. I am going to be happy.
