  I liked a lot about this book but the magic was probably my favorite. I really liked this unique magic system, its rules and constraints, its history, the idea that all magic has a price. I enjoyed the way the plot revolved around it and the different ways different characters interected with their own magic and that of others.

  I also liked how romance was part of the plot but not the main focus. I don't hate on books where the romance is the plot but I tend to enjoy them much less often. But, to be honest, I enjoyed the relationship between Elspeth and Nightmare a bit more. It was more nuanced and less typical than "two hot people with similar goals fall in love" - although, I was here for the romance as well.

  I enjoyed the general vibe and the whole setting too.

  There were some cliches and some repetitiveness (I'll probably remember Ravyn's coarse hands and long nose forever!) but overall it was a thoroughly enjoyable read.
