Also, quite anxiety inducing. In the previous books, the characters (and the readers) had at least some form of rest between battles in the safe rooms: they watched the recap episodes and opened their reward boxes. There's almost none of this in this book, because everyone is at war with everyone, and it's non-stop fighting.
It makes me miss the first book where there was much more ridiculousness and much less heartbreak... Don't get me wrong, this book is great, too, and there's still plenty of whacky stuff going on, and there's still place for humor, but it is differently balanced and has more serious moments. The way Princess Donut admits she has hoped all her scars would only be on the inside... I'm not crying, you're crying!
I'm actually a bit glad I have some breathing space before I read the next book - but I also can't wait!
