The book has some decent creepiness and the initial buildup seemed to be going well, but it didn’t build up to anything satisfying and a lot of it fell flat.
A large part of the story is kids acting out and being little brats. It would probably be really scary in real life if someone you love changed so abruptly for the worse but the way it was written in this book didn’t scare me.
The evil entity is really vague and boring. It basically exists to procreate, killing one family at a time years apart. Again, would be mega-scary IRL, but was kind of meh in the book.
The parents seemed kind of apathetic and not doing nearly enough considering what was happening to their kid.
I didn’t dislike the book, but a lot of it was more meh than good.
