The best WW2 book of all times!

It's the most difficult book I had to read in my life, and yet how rewarding!

I have read quite a few WW2 historical fiction books, and usually, they are quite long. We're talking 450+ pages. I loved all of them!
However, this book managed to fit the most epic love story that has ever existed within 288 pages. The author managed to tell this real-life story of Lale Sokolov so amazingly. It seemed disappointing to me to already kinda know the end. Like all of us know, they will survive since the actual Lale told his story to Heather Morris for her to document it. It seemed like the biggest spoiler! But when you're reading the book, you catch yourself thinking: "Damn, but how DID you survive? 'Cause this seems impossible!"

This book tells the most beautiful love story that happens in the world filled with cruelty, murder, and inhumane actions. The story that withstands time and death. The beam of light in the darkest place.
This book makes us believe that good and kind people exist, love lasts, and sometimes strangers become family. The author managed to tell it so well, highlighting the horrors of that reality and emphasizing the smallest yet the most heroic acts of humanity. It even had jokes and laughs that you'd never expect to see in a book like this, and this adds to it magnitude.

The most difficult thing about this book is to actually comprehend that all of this has actually happened, that it is what people had to endure and go through to end up on the other side. This is absolutely heartbreaking to realize! It hits differently!

Absolute must-read for everyone who is capable of reading tragic stories like this!
This is a must-read not only because it's an amazing WW2 book or because it tells the most epic love story, but also because every one of us should know what happened and never forget this piece of tragic history!
