The Perks of Being a Wallflower
Stephen Chbosky
Аноним13 июля 2014 г.The very disappointing thing about reading the book after the movie you’ve seen is that you always expect what will happen next. You are acknowledged with the plot and you do associate the heroes of the book with the well-known actors that played the roles in the movie. You cannot go further in your imagination: the process takes place by simply comparing the characteristics/personalities with related actors. The only difference that you find in the book is the availability of details that are left due to the time frame.
"The perks of being a wallflower" was not an exception. I have watched the movie first. All I can say about the book is that it is nice. Very nice. It is beautifully written in the format of 16-year-old boy, which only adds to the authors’ writing skill. I liked Charlie a lot, because even if he had such a miserable experience during his childhood, he is very understanding and intelligent. His sensible character can explain the fact that he puts others’ feelings above his own by being a friend indeed. The author could subtly show how Charlie’s character changes throughout the book. Especially I liked the way author included songs, so that we could better understand what Charlie feels by listening to them. They make the story more real. In addition, the book almost precisely portrays current teenage society and is very unique in its form.
I have also noted down some quotes from the book that I liked a lot:
“We accept the love we think we deserve” and “This is not a time for heroes because nobody will let that happen”...124
