  The heart of the metro

  When I read this novel for the first time I thought - could it have been told differently? Could it have another strength or maybe another point of discussion? And I have come with the mind that it couldn’t. This story couldn’t be told in anower way. This way may seem to be so ordinary, so common, but you should know - this is the way of thinking of the author, it is his unrepeated expression and I could say more - it is the voice of wisdom, it is the sound of understanding. If you only could imagine - how is this feeling to make a choice to speak so loudly, to speak so uncompromisingly. BUT. It is the only way to reveal the core of a painful problem that embraces the social layers of our nation. If you noticed the main person Artem isn’t a clished character on the part of his feelings. He is a cowardly young man as he confessed at the end of this novel. And it is an interesting feature to observe a main person who isn't brave and bold like in many novels. Dmitry Glukhovsky avoids this typical occasion and it makes this novel endowed by an interesting unglamorous underwater stream. Because it is the first novel by the author and as we know it was published on the internet and induced a lot of positive reactions through readers we can say - it is a really significant creation. In overall it is an action story which has a lot of sudden pivot points and holds a reader in a strain from the first string to the last sentenсe. If you are a keen reader you would notice how the author communicates with his audience and how he plays with images. This novel is a dark picture of our future, it is a story of social decay and creation of a new one social form. A lot of different and abnormal social formations we can observe in this story and how a person like Artem communicates with them, how he overcomes them and how he could maybe change them forever. But there were no changes, there were no compromises - this book isn’t about it. Overall this book is about forgiveness and hope. About misunderstanding and violence. And we can pass all the way that Artem passed. We can observe some different touching moments that can maybe change something in us a little bit. And if it happens it is a really great and significant achievement of the author who in perspiration created his first book. And with no doubt we can feel a dusk and pressing atmosphere of the post apocalyptic metro that makes us not indifferent at the destiny of the main hero. The hero who has grown up with no father under the ground of destroyed Moscow. And he has the only one way - the way to prove that he must to convey to the reader the essence of this dark story full of violence and gore. But only one truth exists. This truth is under the thickness of concrete and fired ground. It is in the long tortuous tonnes of the metro. And what can we feel? What can we comprehend for each over reading string of this book - this is only the way of compromises. The only one way is understanding. If only we could hold a place of some interesting personalities of this dangerous and breathtaking story. The horde of black creatures which attack Artem’s native station are so metaphoric. Only imagination. Only inspiration. So this novel can change some minds and it is so important nowadays, it is so socially significant that we couldn’t be indifferent. And Artem will understand, he will feel that does mean to be so different, what does mean to be another person. And Glukhovsky can convey to our different or peculiar minds what our world can be another, it can be different. And the aim of any writer is to create some opinion, some unique comprehension of nature and make it available for the folk. This oppressive atmosphere of a destroyed world creates some sort of different meaning in our minds, the reader feels it, the reader understands it and overall the reader makes some notices for himself. It is an incredible experience to pass all the way with the protagonist and reveal something important and touchfull. And we can understand that overall we all encounter something similar in our life, we all have some tough moments and we should know that it is important to feel something more than feel another.

  Every character in this book could affect some inner notes in our consciousness. And it is possible to estimate how much they affect. So many unpredictable plot twists can force us to believe this story, and can force us to deprecate some characters and their acts. But we know that each story has its own personal message. And what is the message of this story? What is the essence of this storytelling? Anyone could find something close to his consciousness. But there is only one true essence, the only one meaningful message that could not fly beside us. And our goal to understand  - that is the message? What is the essence? Maybe it is so close to us. Or maybe it is so unbelievably far away. But we may find something curious. Something that can make our minds so egregious. And in the end of this short essay I would like to say something about black people who attacked Artem’s native station every day, located under a hundred meters of heavy ground. Could it be told in another way? Could it be sounded in another surrounding? This is the only one way to describe some things that Glukhovsky wanted to describe. And there wasn’t another way to describe it. And if you only can imagine how it is curious and interesting to reveal some sort of things that another wants to hear or to read. It is really important for our society. It is important to humanity.
