  To begin with, it is necessary to note that “To kill a mockingbird” is the only one big work by Harper Lee. So, from this fact we can come to idea that it is not necessary to be a professional writer and create hundred of books to be able to write a great masterpiece. Even from the very little extract one can come to conclusion that the whole novel is a fascinating piece of masterpiece.
  As I am used to do, I won’t tell much about the plot of the novel in order to keep a reader in suspense.
  In regard to setting of the novel, it provides a realistic background, the illusion of life. The action is localized in a small American town in Alabama, in the middle of 1930th. The book was published in the heat of movement for human rights in America in 50-60-Х years of XX century. These little things may be of great importance and helps us to evoke the necessary atmosphere, meaning and unity of the total work. So, as we know, 1930 year is time of difficult economical depression, when the position of black man was very low. In the work we see different social groups - poor men, rich landlords, black men as their servants and workers. The whole atmosphere makes us get acquainted with customs of the people, the level of law and spirit of stability, social and racial prejudices.
  There is an interesting thing that the story is written by simple language, but, on the other hand, it mentions serious questions. The functional style of speech is the style of fiction with elements of oratorical style, the aims of which are to prove innocence, to cause the corresponding attitude to the stated facts and sometimes even to induce to action. It makes the process of reading vivid and close to the reality, what is very important for many readers.
  The main theme and the general idea of the text is the position of black men in society, their rights and duties. It is so evident that even a child knows the right answer, but people always complicates, they do not see things as they are, they always find fault with it, they see it’s colour or shape, or material. If the thing is gold, they will close their eyes and bring it to their houses even if this gold is a weapon of a murder. This is a real world.
  The novel of the American writer Harper Lee "To kill a mockingbird" is named as the most inspiring book. This creation about struggle against racism in America of times of Great Depression bypassed even the Bible. Complex remembered characters, historical realities of pre-war USA, social inequality – the things which are very serious and difficult for understanding. This work is worth reading.
