The idea seemed quite amusing, its implementation though leaves a bit more to be desired. The whole story is just simply blunt and pretty bleak to remember it a week later or to compare its author to the grand master of murder mysteries, the marvelous Agatha Christie, like the cover of the book suggests. An homage to “And Then There Were None” and “Murder on the Orient Express” is cute and respectable but so clumsily executed that reading those pieces almost makes you cringe and want to unread the whole thing. And to be honest, that is all I can really recall from the novel, and I have literally just finished it!!! “The Eighth Detective” also attempts to surprise you not with one, but four final twists; unfortunately, all of them fall flat to bring an anticipated excitement and a cathartic culmination of this entire endeavor.
