For sure, this book has deserved all these good things that almost everyone says on its account. Not only the author has managed ot achieve everybody’s excitement, but also significantly contributed to the common understanding of the segregation problem.
I couldn’t imagine the life of an ordinary Afro-American before. Born and brought up in a big city, I was always surrounded by people of different nationalities and know what can happen. But that story is a little bit different. I mean, there may be conflicts on the basis of culture and mentality. Not blood, not deaths. There may be misunderstanding. Unfortinately, today that’s just a natural order of things. I don’t want to sound like a 10 year old, but what’s wrong with the color?! What I didn’t get from this book is the answer to this question.
However, I'm delighted by the fact that I got close friends. When you start reading the book, you become acquainted with Aibileen and Minny, dark-skinned maids waiting on white Americans. Soon they become your guides to the world of unchristian lives of ladies who don’t even care for their children. Instead, their only business is their reputation. Quite an interesting story, huh? Respectable ladies without any inner respect to the church and virtues they pretend to be busy with. If you read this book, you’ll learn about cruelty and meanness of ones, indignity and humiliation of the others. However, there would be a surprise for you if you decide to find out who was gifted with courage, patience, compassion, selflessness and real love. But what’s so curious about this book except the topic? I would say language. I think that when people speak about what they’re living through, they don’t use complicated language. Like Aibileen or Minny or even Miss Skeeter. My opinion is, the choice of the narrators is the reason why this book becomes not just a written drama, but the drama, which you have to overcome by yourself.
