    I am normal

Every day we meet different people. Every day we watch TV, read newspapers and magazines, look through the Internet and more and more. Instagram became the platform that dictates terms and modern rules. In today’s world, unfortunately, we have standards that have to be followed. These standards mean “perfect” appearance, “perfect” body, “perfect” thoughts... But why do we have to be such “perfect” people for others? When will we be happy and look the way we like but not the mass wants? I’m different from my mates and other teens around me. I’m weird (because of my thoughts, mind, habits, and point of view) moreover, I like it! I like my inner world. Also, I can call myself an introvert. I don’t like people, I don’t like parties and I don’t have many friends. I prefer slow music and I don’t understand modern jokes. I’m not fit in, I guess. I can’t mentally stay in my class or somewhere else with groups of peers. Am I bad? No, it makes me unique. I don’t have to change, no way.

This summer I was interested in one book’s description and immediately thought that I am almost the same. I felt that I had to read it and I wasn’t mistaken! It was Ellie Terry’s book “Forget me not” about one unique girl Calliope June, who has Tourette.

Tourette’s Syndrome - (TS) is a neurological disorder characterized by repetitive, stereotyped, involuntary movements, and vocalizations called tics.

Of course, everyone mocks her, except one guy. He had to make a choice, to decide who he is, and become much more above than their mates. It’s a warm story with love and loyalty, family problems, teen’s problems, and how we can solve them. This book will teach us how to cope with self-uncertainty, troubles with making friends, troubles with adaptation, numerous transfers, and differences in society. If you are a teen or if you know teens, who need help, give them this book. It’s written in a simple beautiful language with kindness and liking.

Ellie Terry is the wonderful woman who has Tourette, so she knows what she is about. (I’m not a doctor but I have some assumptions that I also may have TS and that’s okay)

(10 and up; POV&3rd person narration. Young Adult).
