That’s a great book to listen to while you are sewing or knitting, doing any kind of needlework :)
Nonetheless, there are a lot of dates and numbers which are not easy to grasp by ear. I am not usually very interested in history itself, so the most intriguing bits of the book for me were those that describe technologies for making fibers and fabrics. Anyway, the declared scope of the book is too wide – literally, from prehistoric times up to futuristic items – so you cannot expect a really deep research. It was written with love, but likely you will find missing many points that might be of your special interest (knitted fabrics, for instance, are not even mentioned). The excuse for that, though, is the scarcity and fragility of material evidence, and also the fact that for quite a while it was considered negligible during archeological digs. To that point, the book also has a distinct feministic bias, emphasizing the lot of diligent and painstaking work quietly done by women over centuries, which was (and still is) not only poorly paid, but often dangerous for health. Nowadays a lot of women do their needlework just for pleasure and entertainment, but having to earn your living with that is an entirely different issue.
