I thought there are no such lousy guys in the world as I was in my thirteen-fourteen. It’s was a good time when I hated everyone who doesn’t think the way I am and who tells me what I have to do.
A time when I met all these phonies, bastards, perverts and all.
A time when I couldn’t find myself in something.
A time when I wanted just to run away off school, folks and all this stuff.
A time when I was interested in where ducks go in the wintertime.
And then I found “The Catcher in the Rye” by Jerome Salinger. It was a story about eternally falling which never ends so you cannot feel or hear yourself hit bottom.
This is how I met Holden Caulfield.
And now having reread “The Catcher…” in original language I can say that it felt like meeting with old friend you haven’t seen for a long time. And the best thing in this stuff is that your book’s friend hasn’t grown up at all and it’s really pleasantly.
Holden, it was so good to see you again.
