Once upon a time a little fisherman's daughter received the privilege to become one of the most famous and well-paying geishas in Gion. Her presence was expected in every rich teahouse of this city and was a great accolade for the hosts. Her life was full of traditional dances, music and exalted dialogues, and her income was substantial. It sounds like a fairy-tale, but the reality wasn't like that at all. The little girl Chiyo had learned that her mother was about to die. Her father was an old man, so he could also die soon. It was clear to him that because of the difficult life situation his daughters could not support or feed themselves. He decided the safest place for them was not nearby their dying parents, but in Gion's okiya where the girls could each learn how to become a geisha. Thus, the main heroine and her sister were driven to and unfamiliar city and separated. The So-called Mother and Granny of the okiya where Chiyo was living were two capricious and greedy woman who wanted to earn much money using the girl when she would be an experienced geisha. IN the meantime Chiyo had to do tedious and nasty household chores. There was also a geisha Hatsumomo who hated the girl, because this new one was too beautiful and her success in the future could destroy Hatsumomo's popularity. So this jealous woman began poisoning Chiyo's life at every possibility. One day the girl succeeded to find her sister in another okiya and they decided to run away. But the plan failed for the main heroine and she was caught while her sister was gone. The Mother have made her a simple maid and have announced a count for all her debts. The life was hard for Chiyo, but she have raised up from the bottom and became the most well-known geisha in Gion.
