Their beauty was as much a part of them as an arm or a leg – it was impossible for them to imagine life without it.
Under its protection, they would leap and spring and dance into their futures; she, on the other hand, would trudge stolidly forward, placing one foot in front of the other without joy or grace.
She had learned from Mrs Bennet that without beauty no real and lasting happiness was attainable.
