Finished Vera Wong's Guide to Snooping on a Dead Man by Jesse Q. Sutanto (and yes, I read it on my laptop), and I have mixed feelings.

This is the second book about Vera. The first one was honestly one of the best books I've ever read: clever, warm, funny, and perfectly balanced. The sequel, however, feels very different.

The story touches on serious issues like scams and human trafficking, which deserve attention. But the overall tone felt too unserious for such heavy topics. At times, it seemed like the book was written with a screen adaptation in mind. It felt very visual, fast-paced, and almost cinematic.

Lately, I've noticed that many books seem written more for ekranization than for deep reading, and this one gave me that impression too.

It wasn't terrible, but it didn't live up to the first book for me. I would rate it 3 out of 5. After finishing, I found myself wanting to read something more serious and thoughtfully written.
