Читать далееA love story, like the cry of the soul of those who learned from childhood: "You are unworthy". The plot grips you from the very first page and doesn't let go until the very end, even when it seems you already know where everything is heading. Because Emma Scott skillfully transforms predictability into poignancy, and cliches into living wounds.
At the center of everything is Weston: poor, stubborn, with pride hidden under a layer of cynicism. At the age of seven, he experienced something that forever etched itself into his soul: he decided he was unworthy of love. And since then, his every action is an attempt to confirm his own curse. I worried for him as if he were an old friend, my heart ached for him.
Against the backdrop of his story is Connor, a boy from a "gilded cage", crushed by his father's expectations, where every step is planned, and dreams are considered a luxury. And between them is a girl who tries to see people behind their masks. Weston and Connor are the best of friends, complementing each other with what they lack in themselves.
It was an interesting triangle: wealth versus poverty, openness versus isolation, hope versus fear. But the most important thing wasn't who would end up with whom in the finale, but whether the characters would finally be able to speak. Because silence, lies - that's what truly destroys.
The author writes easily, almost weightlessly, but every sentence is like a needle in the heart. The characters are alive, fragile, and real. Their friendship, their mistakes, their attempts to find themselves- all of it resonates deep inside, because we've all been silent when we needed to speak.
The ending was disturbing, painful, and left open. And yes, I'm already hoping that the second part won't be long in coming, because I'm not so much curious as I want to fulfill my hopes: what if Weston finally reaches his star?
