Gnostic America: A Reading of Contemporary American Culture & Religion according to Christianity's Oldest Heresy

In 1916, Jung wrote his The Seven Sermons to the Dead written by Basilides in Alexandria, the City Where the East Toucheth the West. Apparently Jung was visited in his dreams by the ghost of Basilides, an ancient Gnostic whose preached sermons Jung transcribed. In these sermons he introduces Abraxas, the God beyond good and evil. When the Nag Hammadi texts were discovered, one text was dedicated to him. Jung, an old man at the time, proclaimed, "All my life I have been working and studying to find these things, and these people knew already."25

In short, Jung was a Gnostic.
