They should make a Scooby-Doo movie with this creepy atmosphere.
It'll be a banger.
I loved the first 70% of the book — I didn't even notice how I swallowed the story. Again, at first it was so good. I got chills and anxious thoughts when I later went to bed myself. Lovely rising tension. The book made it creepy. I liked that there were no stereotypical characters like the bully, mean girl, nerd, etc. I became attached to the side characters too, everything felt tight and real except... the ending.
Like, wth was that? The sounds, some little details that I at first thought would be a sort of Chekhov's gun thing — they weren't. The final villain was sudden, but not in a connecting-the-dots way. Maybe it was too short to understand the villain's presence and its purposes.
The book is kind of Stephen King-coded, and his art is not my cup of tea.
Though, it was more of a good read than not.
