Camp taste is, above all, a mode of enjoyment, of appreciation - not judgement. Camp i s generous. It wants to enjoy. It only seems like malice, cynicism.
Camp is the consistently aesthetic experience of the world. It incarnates a victory of "style" over "content", "aesthetics" over "morality", of irony over tragedy.
Things are camp, not when they become old - but when we become less involved in them, and enjoy, instead of be frustrated by, the failure of the attempt.
What was banal can, with the passing of time, become fantastic.
Time liberates the work of art from moral relevance, delivering it over to the Camp sensibility.
There is taste in people, visual taste, taste in emotion - and there is taste in acts, taste in morality. Intelligence, as well, is really a kind of taste: taste in ideas.
