The New Testament: The Authorized or King James Version

The most important book in the history of Christianity is presented here in the translation which has itself exerted such a profound influence on both the spiritual life and the literary production of English-speaking cultures. Originally issued in the reign of James I, the Authorized Version was contemporary with Shakespeare’s last plays and shares the expressive beauty of their language. There have been many later translations: none surpasses this one in authority and power.
