Films are not made for actors. True, we're invited to premieres, and sometimes we go, but not so much to see as to be seen. We play the part of cinema props, like the stills, but with less flattering lighting. We arrive for the opening and are importuned for autographs, and would gladly give them, but have no ime even to explain that we are commanded to be in our seats before the lights go down. I dislike premieres only less than I dislike Hollywood parties, and the hundred or so minutes stretch out like so many years - it would hardly surprise me if the audience emerged looking like people on an outing from an old folks' home. The ideal situation. when a film opens, is to be working on another, preferably on a location where you are irretrievable.
