Читать далееДочитала "Gin and Daggers" ("Джин и кинжалы"). Книга, написанная от лица Джессики Флетчер Дональдом Бейном. Жанр: cozy mystery (что-то вроде "уютный детектив"). Детектив и правда уютный :) Читала запоем! Книга об убийстве знаменитой британской писательницы Марджори Эйнсворт. Очень хороший слог, прекрасный стиль изложения и очень правдоподобные персонажи. Финал неожиданный. Почти до самого конца книги автор искусно сохраняет интригу. Могла бы порекомендовать всем и каждому, да вот только, насколько я знаю, книга на русский не переведена... Так что советую всем, владеющим английским языком. В этой серии, кстати, поговаривают целых 42 книги. Так что я ещё вернусь к историям о неутомимой Джессике Флетчер.
Polkadot6 марта 2017Читать далееAn interesting read that feels like the TV series. The first person perspective helps to get into the character's mind. Oftentimes Jessica Fletcher's thoughts would differ greatly from what she says to people around her which I found hilarious.
London wasn't very convincing tbh. I mean, the book was written in '89, but I'm pretty sure that young boys selling newspapers Charles Dickens style wasn't the thing, and Yard Inspector wouldn't be able to take care of personal matters during his work hours. Another flaw for me is that I got lost among many names and characters. I'd think: Was that the British publisher or the theatre producer? Who was that Simpson guy again?
I'll have to ponder on this piece of wisdom:
"simply dropping in on someone can be more effective than trying to arrange a meeting in advance. Sometimes it works somtimes it doesn't."
What? Maybe it's something to do with the times before smartphones.Jessica Fletcher in the book is an established writer well known for her crime solving skills. She's lost her husband and it's mentioned a few times. It's like the series - a lot of talking, Jessica getting into everybody's business, her having friends or relatives everywhere she visits.
