Читать далееI consider this book magical. I realized I tend to get inspired just by reading it. I am also slowly falling in love with Twyla Tharp as a professional, though I had no idea who the heck that lady was before I started reading "The Creative Habit". It is worth mentioning I read it slowly one chapter at a time to make sure I enjoy the contents. This is not a book for a long train ride, it is not light inspirational fiction and to get the most of it you have to commit doing some work.
"Creative Habit" meaningfully describes concepts that often fall in between the cracks or are considered self-explanatory. How do you get inspired? Can you generate novel ideas regularly? Does a routine limit your creative power? How can you set up an environment in which you get the most out of your work? What should you do if you are stuck or fail? Have you ever thought of a tremendous impact other people can have on your work? What is luck and how can you get lucky?
I deeply enjoy how the given advice is applicable to different arts and other areas of life, not only choreography. There are exercises at the end of almost each chapter to make sure you can practice the ideas you have just read. How wonderful is that?
I cannot say I agree with each sentence and every described suggestion, but overall the book made an unusually positive impression on me.
