Невежество есть настоящее лишение, ничего не производящее. Это - пустота, в которой душа остается без движения, потому что лишена всякого влечения и живёт, не зная ни счастья изучения, ни скуки забвения. Поэтому я готов заключить, что, если ничто не мешает естественному последствию просвещения, человек делается счастлив по мере того, как ум его делается образованнее.
