"So... how are you doing?" It was a stupid question, but that's what people do - ask each other stupid things they don't even want to know the answer to.

It's amazing, the lies you can tell yourself. Even more amazing, the lies you can believe when you're desperate enough.

Trust me. People who say things like that are usually deeply untrustworthy or trying to get you to do something you don't want to do.

"Can I kiss you?"
I definitely wasn't expecting that. "Why would you want to do that?"
