The Doctor snatched back the fez. ‘You see, I said you’d start getting confused.’ He bounded over to future Rory and placed it ceremonially onto his head. ‘There. Now, you have to keep this on. The fate of the entire universe may depend on it.’
‘Really?’ said future Rory. ‘The entire universe? Depends on me wearing a fez? That’s how these things work, is it?’

Rory tried to get his head around it. ‘So it’s now safe for me to touch my future self?’
‘Yes,’ said the Doctor. ‘Although I would strongly advise you not to.’
‘Why?’ said Rory.
‘Yeah, why not?’ said the future Rory.
‘Because it would look odd. Best keep your hands to, um, yourself.’
Rory and his future self exchanged indignant frowns. ‘Right. Yeah. Thanks a lot, Doctor.’

‘I assure you there’s nothing to be scared of. Do I look like the sort of person who would kidnap a bride, on her wedding day, in a police box?’

The Doctor waggled his fingers in frustration. ‘What have I told you? Paradoxes! Angels! Ramifications! Why do humans never do as they’re told? Someone should replace you all with robots. No, on seconds thoughts, they shouldn’t, bad idea.’

‘Interesting,’ said the Doctor. ‘Because the wibble-detector never lies. Unless it’s malfunctioning, which is always a possibility. But not in this case. I can feel the build-up of potential time energy. Makes all the hairs on the back of my neck stand on end. And tastes of lemons.’

‘Well done,’ said the Doctor, helping Rory to his feet. ‘You’ve just saved the entire space-time continuum.’
‘Great,’ said Rory with little enthusiasm, handing him the wallet.
The Doctor examined it and shook his head. ‘But I’m afraid it’s the wrong wallet.’
‘Wh-what?’
‘Only joking,’ beamed the Doctor. ‘It’s the right wallet. Your face!’ The Doctor adjusted his bow tie, feeling terribly pleased with himself.

The Doctor went into explanation mode. ‘Blinovitch Limitation Effect. Two identical versions of the same person, at different points in their timeline, should not co-exist within the same space and time. All sorts of nasty potential for paradoxes. And if they should happen to make physical contact – bang!’
‘Like with the two Marks?’ said Amy.
‘Like, as you say, with the two Marks,’ said the Doctor. ‘But I’ve now neutralised the effect. Ask me how.’
‘How?’ said the future Rory.
‘You couldn’t possibly begin to understand. But thanks for asking.’
