Увлекательный и веселый роман о том, как на фоне парализованного пробками Лондона происходит противостояние компании с узнаваемым названием Global Motors и талантливого изобретателя Джеффри, властей с их road lobby и жителей Англии, протестующих против того, чтобы Кью Гарденс закатали в асфальт, а также нефтяных магнатов и кое-кого, кто может лишить их власти... в общем, скучать не придётся! "Личный автомобиль - неотъемлемое право каждого человека!" - и к чему приведет (и уже приводит) такой лозунг. Автор поднимает весь спектр вопросов, связанных с транспортом и отношением к нему общества, и наблюдения его, как всегда, точны и остроумны.

The production of a single private car consumes the sort of natural resources which could keep a famine threatened village in the Third World going for months. This, combined with the incalculable cost of the road it will require and the fuel it will consume, turns each car into an environmental hand grenade. Certainly we need cars. Certainly catalytic converters are very good things, but to imagine that fitting one will make a car environmentally friendly . . .? You might as well fit one to a bucket of napalm.

Horns serve no practical purpose: they are there to alleviate personal frustration and to insult and annoy other road users. Their only real use, the one defined in the driving test as 'announcing your presence', is rendered completely useless by the fact that they are used so often to say 'fuck off that that is the only message which other people hear.
