Draugur_ulv24 августа 2016The scariest thing about this book is how not at all far-fetched its reality is. Other dystopian novels seem very safe in compare. Here, however, who knows? Maybe Trump will become the next US president, then blame something on terrorism... and here it is, it could happen. Soon. This lifetime. These next couple of years. It probably (hopefully) won't. I see a major difference in the presence of the Internet, which is more difficult to shut off, and people would spread the opposing views and actions faster. Or would they? Who knows? I mean, it is of course very intensified in contrast. It's fiction. But I could see it happening, chanting about "The Children" and "Traditional Values". All the preceding valuables are there too: US being very racist, pro-life, a lot of fundamentalists home-schooling their kids to keep their minds closed, sexism, homophobia, fear of Islamic terrorism. I guess it's always been there. The names/politicians/threats change but the ideas remain almost exact. Anyway, what I'm saying is that... US, here's a cautionary tale for you and others (Russia, looking at you). Be careful, for now you can't say that you haven't been warned.
