It was a long time ago when I first saw the BladeRanner movie. In 20 years I had no slightest idea that this movie was based on the book "Do androids dream of electric sheep?". Frankly speaking, I read some books by this author and I was surprised when I found out that Blade Runner based on the novel by Philip Dick.
Author describes the post apocalyptic world, after nuclear war, where the position in the society also based on the animal which you have as a pet. Planet Earth, due to the fallout, has a lack in biological life – a lot of species are instinct.
The maincharacter is Rick, who is a bounty hunter and his main occupation is to "retire" the escaped androids, who could be mistaken for human being without tests. We can see the elements of the crime story in the plot, especially when Rick attempts to retire opera singer, Luba Luft.
Apart of the plot which I couldn't find as sophisticatedly intriguing, I saw several deep thoughts and questions, planted in the book.
The first one is – if the artificial life is possible? Is it possible for humans to be replaced by androids? Each new generation of androids better and better and one day nobody can distinguish them from human – we can read it between the lines.
And we know, that the artificial animals (such as owl in the book, for example) nowadays are possible to be made by cloning, so it was predicted by Philip.Another thing, which was interesting, is about the regular check up of population to see whether one is chickenhead or not. I read and thought – so many people must be tested in modern society ... Did author had the same thought when he wrote it... nobody knows ...
The other thoughts will be found by curious reader, otherwise I take a risk to make a spoiler and reveal a lot, which I don't like. I better wish a pleasant reading for everyone )
