Don't Let Her Stay
Никола Сандерс
Jocelyn_Phoenix22 мая 2025 г.I usually try not to judge book characters for being/acting stupid because I'm not that smart either, and people do be doing dumb stuff all the time, and stressful situations make us even dumber. However, in this book it almost entirely happens because the author needs the characters to do certain things for the plot to happen, no matter whether it fits with the character and their motivations or not.
The evil stepdaughter is all "I love my daddy and I won't let anyone have him". But then she gets him killed and lets her stepmom and stepsister (who took him from her) live.
The dad is overly protective of his new wife and kid but he also knowingly lets a mentally unstable murderer move in. He knowingly lets a mentally unstable murderer move in but he gets mad and gaslights his wife every time she says that he might have let a sus person move in with them.
The stepmother is suspicious of the stepdaughter but then genuinely tries to be friends with her, on and off, on and off. She seems to be taking good care of her newborn but then lets a total (and very sus) stranger with no experience take care of said newborn. She loves her husband and is kind of a doormat but turns on him almost immediately when the stepdaugter blames him.
These are some of the biggest examples, but there are lots of them in the book. The characters are not people they are plot devices, and it shows and it is not interesting to read.
There were maybe a couple of genuinely creepy moments, but overall it was mostly just very annoying.
