I enjoyed some of this but I can't say it was good.

The book is very surface level, from characters and their motivations, to the plot and the way things are resolved in the end. It's rather cliched, especially Caroline's character ark. The historical part is barely there, and it could have easily been a hundred or so years earlier or later.

Also, I get that it's suposed to be feminist, but it feels more like man-hating. The male characters can hardly even be called caricatures, they are just plot devices. Having said that, I rather enjoyed Caroline standing up to her husband.

I also did somewhat enjoyed the plot line that was happening in the past, as well as the description of the apothecary's shop and work process, the mudlarking was a nice touch, and the pacing paced, so overall it wasn't a bad read, but it could have been so much better!
