  Is this book a tad predictable in many places? It is. We have enemies becoming reluctant allies becoming rivals, vicious people turning out to be - well, vicious, a main character who of course turns out to be more powerful than anyone had thought.

  It has also so many things going on: gods, magic, political drama, feuding clans, vampiric bloodlines... And many of them could use a few more details. The motivation behind many characters' actions is quite hazy, as are the exact reasons behing some of the key events.

  The book is still rather fun, though. It's well written, attention grabbing, and fairly well paced. A few unexpected twists and turns are scattered among the comfortable predictability, making a good mix. What is explained of the world and characters is quite interesting.

  I didn't care much for the romance plot, though, and it's a bit disappointing that the main character ends up giving everything up for her hot vampire boyfriend...

  Overall, I did have quite a bit of fun with the book and I'm intrigued to read the second part.
