The book is genuinely great, but I gave it 4/5 'cause it felt that the book was overhyped to me by my friends who have read it before. Everyone was telling me, "Oh, just wait till the end!". I've waited, and it was too quick of an ending. Especially after reading "The Nightingale" by Kristin Hannah, I was expecting more explicity, intrigue, and hold-your-breath kinda moments.
However, it is a great book worth reading, especially because you get to see the WW2 through the eyes of a 9-year-old German boy. It's full of innocence and cruelty, naivety and ruthlessness, kind and evil.
I do think some adults might find it a bit too childish of a read. That's why I wholeheartedly recommend it more to the younger audience (12+) because I feel that they will greatly benefit from reading it.
It's definitely worth checking it out no matter what age you are. The book is only about 260 pages long, so you'll always find the time to read it!1156
