The story “Fahrenheit 451” by Ray Bradbury. The author of the story was an American fantasy, science fiction, horror and mystery fiction writer. Best known for his dystopian novel Fahrenheit 451 (1953) and for the science fiction and horror stories gathered together as The Martian Chronicles (1950) and The Illustrated Man (1951), Bradbury was one of the most celebrated 20th-century American writers.
The main character of this story is Guy Montag. He is a "fireman" hired to burn the possessions of those who read outlawed books. The government thinks the books can change people’s mind, that is why the government bans them. Guy works honestly and he is sure that he acts in the right way. Then he understands that his life is terrible. Guy decides to read outlawed books, which he has stolen earlier. He learns the Bible by heart. The “firemen” find it out and start hunting for Guy. He decides to escape. He finds the group of people who learn books by heart for passing them on from one generation to another. The war begins and after it they are the only people who can pass their knowledge on.
It is very interesting that the author chose this title “Fahrenheit 451” because this is the temperature of inflammation of the paper. The writer has a philosophy about life, he wants us to understand that our generation don’t read a lot. We are degrading now. Moreover, there is a criticism of a political system. It is clear that the problems raised in the story are concerned with making a life choice. This story is presented from the point of view of Guy Montag, the “fireman”, who manages to break out from the crowd and understands that the government is afraid of people like him.
In conclusion, I’d like to say that this story is really interesting and thought provoking. It is true that the most part of our generation does not value the treasure like books. I think that the stories like this show us the value of the world literature.
