  I had thought that months, perhaps years, would elapse before I dared to reveal myself to Dolores Haze; but by 6 she was wide awake, and by 6:15 we were technically lovers.

  I don't exactly know what is so attractive for me in men who are totally possesed with women, but so it is. I like Blok's passion, I adore Pasternak's painful tenderness and I'm absolutely in love with Bunin's almost holy fear of the one and only love of every main man character. But here we see Nabokov's selfishness, jealousy, desperate attempts to protect the one and only from the other world. And no matter who was that reason for being against the whole world, what is only important - it wasn't just a lust, it was something that takes not only his but your breath away and is making you shiver. Obsession? Maybe. At least it was shockingly honest.

  He was already done long before 6:15. That is what really important. And who cares of who she was?
